Municipal Court or Recorder's Court

Municipal Courts (city courts) and Recorder’s Courts primarily prosecute local ordinance violations and traffic offenses. These courts can be a good place to negotiate cases in an attempt to work out a favorable resolution.

Bench trials are permissible in Municipal and Recorder’s courts but jury trials are not available. If a jury trial is requested, your case will be transferred to the State Court of the County in which the citation or arrest took place. When a case is transferred it will usually take several months before a new court date is scheduled.

Some local ordinance violations cannot be transferred to State Court and must be handled in Municipal or Recorder’s court.
